March General Meeting

Welcome to Spring!  It has been nice to see the trees and flowers in bloom.  It's a little wet today, but spring is in the air.

We had our general meeting March 17th and it was a great time of networking and learning more about our members.  Victoria Anderson shared her experiences preparing and running in a half marathon.  We laughed with her and felt her pain.  The ICE BATH was an interesting concept.  If you missed the event, you will have to ask her about that.  She said that she looks forward to them, I still get the chills thinking about it.

The nominating committee gave their report and recommended the following members to the membership for the 2011/2012 term of officers and directors.  The nominations are as follows:

Directors:
Reina Castillo, Kimberly Combs, Judy Grill, Tracey Hodge, Esmeralda Mendez.

Treasurer - Kathleen Soares
Secretary - Shirley Leone
2nd Vice President - Karen White
1st Vice President - Noelia Weissbrod
President - Alison Holmes

The elections will be held at our General Meeting, April 21st, 2011.  Please plan to attend this meeting.  All members have the right to vote and should be present to let their voice be heard.  This is your opportunity to help steer the direction of our association.

We will also have a guest speaker at the April Meeting.  Robert Weidert, from The National Alliance for Education & Research will be talking to us about the opportunities available and the New CISR Referral Program.  Plan to join us and bring your questions regarding What National Alliance has to offer NAIW members.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or any of our officers and directors.  Have a Great Spring.

See you at the next meeting,

A New Year

2010 has been added to the years of the past, and with great anticipation, we look forward to 2011.  Why do we get so excited about a new year?  Was there something wrong with the old one?  I think we like the idea of a fresh start.  What can I do differently this year? is a question I have been asking myself.

Our lives are full of change.  Not only do we adapt to change at home, we also face change at work and in our social lives.  As you look back to the accomplishments of 2010, I hope that you can see bright days and positive change for 2011.

Our January meeting will be a great time to connect with your IWOF friends.  The new year starts with our nomination committee looking for prospective members to fill the positions of officers and directors.  Barbara Thomas, Kim Cameron & Kathleen Soares will be happy to give you an application for one of the positions available.

See you at the January Meeting, Thrusday, January 20th,

November 2010

Since I last blogged, we have accomplished a multitude of projects.  Esmeralda Mendez, has members collecting canned goods, clothing, paperback books, soda can pop tops and items for Christmas baskets.

Alison Holmes successfully organized and hosted the Wine Tasting and Art Event.  This was a big success and those of us that attended had a great time.  We were able to raise enough money to give scholarships to deserving high school and college students in 2011.

Connie Carpenter & I had the privilege of attending a meeting where Victoria Anderson gave a 1 hour speech, "Run Like a Rock Star".  Victoria took the CWC course a few years ago and represented us at CA Council in 2009.  It was exciting to watch her give such a dynamic speech.  Victoria said that without CWC training, she would never have dreamed of giving this talk.

Speaking about CWC, at our November general meeting, 3 CWC students earned their certificate.  I am so proud of all of these members.  The certificates were earned by:  Louanne Krouse, Stephani Powers & Kathleen Soares.  Thank you Kim Cameron for giving these ladies the instruction and guidance that helped them to complete this course.

Stay Tuned for more exciting news!  Be sure to check out the bulletin and all upcoming events.

Have a Happy Holiday Season,

WHERE DID SEPTEMBER GO???
I turned around and September was gone!  Your Board of Directors and Officers have been busy scheduling events and classes for you, our members.  Please check the calendar and October Bulletin for the special things planned.

I was so proud of our association at the past California Council Meeting.  We had 11 members present and each one had a job to do.  It was great to see our sister associations, and share our ideas with each other.  There were ups and downs, but all was worth it.

Our shy Kathleen Soares, has come out of her shell.  Kathleen was the education fairy,  she sprinkled fairy dust everywhere.  Ask her next time you see her, if it worked.

Shirley Leone, was a fantastic CWC Contestant.  It seemed as though she enjoys speaking to a large group.  She was very poised and professional.  Even though she did not come away with the plaque, she is a winner in our hearts.  Great Job Shirley!

Kim Cameron & I were elected to the California Council Team, Kim as Public Relations Chair and myself as Membership Development Chair.  We are excited to be part of this team with Mitula Patel as our Council Director for 2011/2012.  If you are not familiar with the California Council Team, ask us and we will explain.

Now that I am back home and rested, I will be sharing more about the upcoming events & opportunities and how you can help.  Please plan to attend our general dinner meeting 10-21-10.  I am looking forward to talking with each of you.

See you at the next meeting,

THINGS HAPPENING IN SEPTEMBER

September has started with a full calendar.  Connie Carpenter is working with the Membership Committee to put together a wonderful membership drive.  This event will be held Thursday, September 16th.  Please make plans to attend and bring a friend.  Contact Stephani Powers to make your reservation.

The California Council Meeting is just around the corner, September 24th & 25th.  "Pack Your Bag & Pen in 2010".  I am so excited about this meeting.  There are about 10 of us attending.  I'm sure we will have a bag full of information to bring back.

Shirley Leone will be representing us in the CWC contest which is always a favorite event.  This will happen on Saturday morning, September 25th.

Kim Cameron has announced her bid for the position of California Council Public Relations Chair for 2011/2012.  Kim is currently the California Council Membership Development Chair and is doing a great job.  She is working with all of the local presidents to help them grow and retain their members.  If elected, Kim will be a fabulous Public Relations Chair.

I have also announced my bid for the position of California Council Membership Development Chair 2011/2012.  I have served on several council committees, and would like the opportunity to serve with the Council Director for the upcoming term.

There are other candidates that have announced their desire to serve the California Council Members.  Please go to the California Council website which can be found by clicking on the link button. The candidate’s flyers are located on the member’s page.

As your delegate to the council meeting, I am there to represent you.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

See you at the next meeting,
Cathy Temple
